Painting class demos are like a Julia Child cooking show

Peony in Green Glass © Maud Guilfoyle, watercolor 9 x 8"

It is best to keep it simple when doing a demo in a painting class, so as not to overwhelm your students or lose control of the demo. Sometimes I will bring works in different stages of development from rough sketch to an almost finished painting; Julia Child used to prep different stages of a dish to teach her method in a set block of time. Remember to have time throughout your session for one on one instruction for individual students and be able to spontaneously changing your demo plan altogether.
