The light at what Galen Rowell called 'magic hour'. The reflections of the sky and sunset in the water is beautiful.

Hudson River, City of Dreams, plein air oil painting

Painting in Piermont, New York. If you walk down the pier you can see Manhattan in the distance around the Palisades that jut out into the river. Glad I painted this yesterday, today it is supposed to reach 100. With the high temperatures, paint starts to drag.

Autumn Studio © Maud Guilfoyle

Just finished Autumn Artist's Studio watercolor, 22 inches wide x 30 inches high, second in a suite of 4.

I saw the cd cover of Van Morrison's latest in Starbucks - Born to Sing: No Plan B.
At the risk of a pun, the title struck a chord. I realized that I can't not do art, no plan B.
Sometimes it is a bumpy road.

Cloud over the Hudson River at Piermont © Maud Guilfoyle

Sometimes the perfect cloud appears. I'm working on edges and washes now.
It was the perfect mother's day, reading, painting and gardening

Hudson River Fall 2011

Crazy weather continues. frost some evenings then 65 degrees and sunny. I like to paint this place on the Hudson River. There are no signs of development, just water, hills and sky. This was from three weeks ago, the leaves are mostly down now.
