Ornamental Squash
Playing with composition of ornamental squash, pears and sunflower. I used acrylic on paper, great fun, very lose studies. I am going over composition in my painting classes and used quick studies to show how placement and space between different elements adds to the energy movement in a painting or can make it get stuck.
I love the bright colors and strange shapes of some of the squashes.

Spring has come so early this year. Trees are in full bloom the day before it is officially Spring!

So much rain!!! Last of the garden produce, limping through. I feel for the farmers, and C.S.A.s. It is officially fall and I have not been near my garden for two months as I have been finishing the editing on my e-book Artist to Artist Handbook. Will have it posted on my pocketcards next week and hopefully on itunes in two weeks. I am both excited about this and have 'stage fright'. Feel much more exposed in writing than art. So, this project will be done and I will have more time at the easel which will be welcome!

May Flowers © 2011
I just finished getting this framed and delivered for a silent auction benefit for my local library. I hope they do well with it, I can't imagine a life without a library, from childhood on. This painting was basically done a few years ago, but not quite right. When I sat down to work on it it just flowed.
Such a pleasure to paint again! I have been working on two big projects for months, one all but done the other close. One is a calendar for the art school where I teach. It shows art from faculty and from kids' art programs at the Art School at Old Church in Demarest, New Jersey. The other is an e-handbook for artists. The calendar should be finished and back from the printer in a week, and I am (or rather my husband is) proofing the third copy of the handbook. After formatting it for different devices, copyrighting it, and posting it, I look forward to just painting and teaching again. Graphic designers, proof readers and editors have my total respect after these two projects; I am so thankful to all the people who helped with these projects.

I am winding up work on two big projects, design work on a first calendar for the art center I teach at (www.tasoc.org) and an artist's handbook. I have been working on these since fall and am excited with the results and also looking forward to painting every day again!

Year of the Rabbit © 2011

I began this painting on Valentine's Day when I got these tulips. The rabbit is for the Chinese New Year. I wish for everyone that 2011 is a year of creativity and abundance.

Paisley Shawl © 2011

This watercolor began as a class demo on drapery. After getting home I fell into the patterns and shadows across the woven fabric.
